For the actual day of Father's Day this year, I was lucky enough to meet my good friend John's kids, and score some free pizza at the always delicious L & B Spumoni Gardens, a staple during our days at the US Census Bureau. These kids blew me away with how funny and well-mannered they are.

Mermaid Parade 2011 Part 1
Every summer in Brooklyn is kicked off by the Mermaid Parade in Coney Island. I don't know the origins of this, but I do know it's an excuse for women, and men, to wear pasties, or similarly revealing outfits and for huge throngs to crowd the streets. It's a great, fun time, with outfits as outrageous as any Halloween party you'll see.

Cyclones vs Staten Island Yankees
For Father's Day this year, my sister and I thought it would be nice to bring our dad to a baseball game. With Mets games starting at $32 for most weekend games, we opted for the minor league experience and saw the Cyclones lose a thrilling game to the Yankees, 3-2, at their home opener. While I'm a huge Mets fan, I appreciate the minor leagues more and more as I get older. The laid back and small town feel of the stadiums, not really caring who wins, watching players play for something less than 12 figures, and getting close to the action all make it appealing.
